Editing the beginning of our film:

We properly began to edit our Thriller today.
We started it chronologically using different transitions and trying out different effects so it sustains the thriller atmosphere throughout.
We had difficulty cutting the film at the beginning as we wanted the young girl to appear closer as she walked down a long road. We used a merging transition and wanted three of equal length, however, this was difficult judging the length of the road and shot length. However, we managed to suss the problem and it does now look effective, especially when we have added music and changed the colouring to sepia or something similar.
We added in many different angles to the section where the girl is walking home, to interest the audience and as symbolic triggers, such as when the girl walks swiftly past the poster of a 'missing girl'. We wanted this shot to be obvious however not too long so that its only a suggestion to our audience.
We then had long shots, close-ups and mid shots, one being where the girl walks from behind the camera into the shot.
We are going to add an effect whereby we convert the shot so that we can slow it down when the girl walks towards her house. This is a good suggestion that the girl is walking towards danger, as though she is initiating it, this is quite ironic as it is her who happily talks to the paedophile over MSN showing her vulnerability.
After the short close-up as the girl opens her front door and slams it behind, we purposely fastened up the pace to portray her daily routine. We cut it short as there is a close-up as she slams her keys on the side, then a low angle shot of her taking her shoes off and throwing her bag down in a carefree manner.
We then cut it to her walking into her kitchen and the shot then changes to a mid shot from another angle tracking her as she walks across to turn the kettle on.
The next shot in my opinion is effective as it is in darkness for a split section and we filmed from inside the cupboard. The girl takes out a mug and slams the door on the camera. This is quite symbolic as it conveys at this point she is in control, not just over the situation in a familiar place but over our viewing. This helps to contrast later when she is grave danger.

Here is someones step by step introduction to slow motion shots which helped when editing the opening section of our film:

Part 1: Shooting:

On Sunday we started shooting our media film from the beginning. We decided to shoot the build up to the conversation between the two main characters over msn, meaning that we would only need Amy for this shoot.

We started shooting around 3 O'clock, so to be realistic as this would be around the time that the school girl would be returning home.
Concerning costume, we dressed Amy in Heathside Uniform and tied her hair back, however, she looked a little messy as it was the end of the day.
The first shot we needed was a continuing shot of the school girl walking along an extremely long road, from an extreme long shot to a medium/close-up. When editing this we will cut it at sections so she gradually appears closer, so as to add a creepy feel to our thriller.
We tested different angles for her walk home. As the school girl turns a corner, we shot from a long distance with a poster of a missing girl poster stuck on a lamp post in the foreground. We are hoping to edit this so that the focus at this point is on the poster with the girl slightly blurred. However, this shot will only be short, so as only to suggest that something may happen later on, not giving too much away.

When Amy gets to the door, we shot an extreme close-up of her hand as she turns the key in the door and whilst she lets herself in. At this point she slams the front door, this forceful noise is used to speed up the next section as it symbolises that now she is home, she is in a 'routine'.

We then shot a low angle shot as Amy removes her blazer in the hall, kicks off her shoes, puts her keys and bag down. Furthermore, we also shot a close-up of her throwing her keys on the side as if at this point she has control. She is in her own home, she thinks she knows who she is talking too later over msn, when she actually is an extremely vulnerable and naive character.

We placed the camera and stand on the island in the kitchen, to film as the school girl walks through the kitchen and turns on the kettle. This part of the film is all a build up to the talk, it is as though she does this everyday and she is used to this lifestyle.
We shot from inside a cupboard when Amy gets a mug out, it starts with a blackout and then you see her appear and close the door on the audience, this is effective as it is rather abstract and again shows her supposed control.

Finally we shot a low angle shot across the surface of the kitchen top, of Amy placing her mug on the side and walking away, supposedly towards the computer when the story unravels.
